For many decades, Vidigal, as well as the other communities, was considered an unsafe area due to the drug traffic and the civil wars that were taking place among communities and cartels. However, since January 2012, the UPP (Pacifiying Police Unit) got hold of the place and took care of the drug dealing problems.See more about Vidigal>

One of the most amazing views in the city lies on the top of this community, the highest peak of the Morro Dois Irmaos. The wide cultural heritage and output is spread all over the favela, graffities all over the palce telling stories without words. Art is everywhere in everybody. Many different parties and events take place in Vidigal, offering always a good time and a marvelous view.
Carioca`s nights have a special edition in Vidigal. Great parties in what it is now called Alto Vidigal, which used to be the gathering place for drug dealers. Nowadays it has been remade as the hang out place for young people as well as families, to party and have fun, and to dance your feet off until the sunrise. It is worth the wait to see the first sun in the morning dying the city in red, orange and yellow.
