The traditional New Year`s celebration in Rio is an endless display of fireworks at the Copacabana beach. It is one of the biggest and most famous show all over the world. It starts at midnight and it lasts for about 12`. The fireworks come from different platforms placed on the sea so everybody can appreciate them from a different viewpoint in Rio. Over the last few years, the number of people in this event has grown, reaching more than 2 million in the last Reveillon.
————————– What to do during the Reveillon ———————————
According to tradition, people wear different colours depending on their wishes for the oncoming year. White is the predominant one and it stands for peace and harmony, red is passion, pink is love, yellow or gold is money, blue is inner peace, green is balance, orange is financial success, and purple is inspiration and stability. So, we have to bear in mind what we want for 2016, what our goals are and put them together in the clothes we are wearing that night. Most people dress in white and add the colour in a bracelet, the underwear, or their shoes.

The subway is going to be functioning all night long during New Year. There are tickets on sale for that night. Copacabana tunnels are going to be closed for cars and buses, to avoid traffic jams. Only private buses are going to be allowed in the tunnels, so if you are planning to get to Copacabana in your car, try to do it during the day. Otherwise, the Metro (subway) is the best option.
