A bit of history
During the golden era in Rio, restaurants and coffee shops in Lapa where the places that intellectuals, sambistas (people that play samba), and artists used to go. After the 40’s, the neighbourhood underwent a decline that lasted until 1990, since many outcasts and exprisioners chose that place to live. In that way, the area became a place to gamble and traffic…it changed the style of Lapa radically.
In the last few years, Lapa recovered its magic, mainly in the bars and nightclubs that started to trigger tourists’ attention and nowadays tons of them gather around the arcs to celebrate and party.
Some parts of Lapa are still dirty and shabby, however where the party takes place, it seems like it is in constant evolution. That indicates that the transformation has already started.
