FOOD & DRINK
Lakes, rivers and channels go through the entire neighbourhood, so a great amount of buildings are eco-friendly and are in direct contact with nature.
The vast area occupied by Barra is demographically diverse. Upper middle class and high class residences are spread among the many big company and shopping mall buildings.
Most of the residents come from Zona Sul (south of Rio), places like Ipanema, Leblon and Gavea that got really crowded in the past years. People emigrated to Barra to escape from the craziness of the most touristic beaches in Rio, to enjoy a beautiful beach, almost deserted during week days. Most of these residents are part of the carioca elite that were looking for a new space and great commodity.
Entertainment
Barra is one of the main gastronomic and entertainment center in the city. Shopping Malls, movie theatres, theatres, cultural centers, restaurants, parties, and bars, entertainment for everybody, no matter how old you are. Most people come around because Barra has a great beach, crystal clear water, white sand and, from time to time, massive waves.
Nightlife
Barra nightlife is the best. It is really far from downtown, but from Zona Sul it is just a half an hour ride. Most of it takes place in Rua das Boates and Armando Lombardi St, where all the nightclubs and pubs are located, different music styles and plenty of people looking for fun. No matter how old you are, your style and looks, everybody comes here and choose the place they feel more into, electronic music, pop, funk, pagode and zamba are gonna blow your mind!
The Beach
In a city full of amazing beaches, Barra de Tijuca stands out by its beauty and greatness. It goes from Praia do Pepê to Recreio dos Bandeirantes, along with Sernambetiba Av. With mora than 18 km, Barra is the largest beach in Rio de Janeiro.
For those first timers in Rio, a visit to Barra is mandatory. The beach oustands Ipanema and Copacabana, it is magnificent and surprisingly big. Waves are massive, and the breathtaking view of Pedra da Gavea is the main attraction that will catch your sight.
There is a great flow of people in Barra, mainly young and tourists, and every day more people are attracted to go and visit, spend their evenings in bars and restaurant, and even in quiosques with a nice view towards the beach.
The beach has a nice sidewalk and a bicycle path, perfect to run, jog, skate, or just walk peacefully enjoying the view. On your way, you will come across the Reserva Municipal de Marapendi (Marapendi Natural Reserve), the huge green lung of Barra. There is a big lake inside the reserve, and it is the perfect scenario of many water sports.
Barra is the perfect beach to gather with friends and family, really quiet and relaxed. There are actually not too many people around, so you can feel free to do whatever you want. On windy days the sea can turn very brave, so you have to be careful when it comes to dipping comfortably. However, every post in the beach have lifeguard stands with firemen ready to help you if something happens. So, just come around and enjoy this beautiful place!
